Painted Mountain and Roy’s Calais Flint corn display a rainbow of color

With Vermont Compost Company soil and High Mowing Organic Seeds we created a garden.

In April of 2021, we removed a tarp placed in the lawn to create a raised bed vegetable garden. We started with a layer of cardboard over the entire area, piled on Vermont Compost Company perennial mix and compost to create 15 garden beds. Right outside the garden area, we mulched a pile of tree cuttings to create additional space to garden.

The paths between the beds were lined with wood chips sourced from an existing wood pile along side our barn. The garden includes an existing grape arbor for the entrance.

We grew corn, tomatoes, sunflowers, peas, summer and winter squash, watermelon, beans, potatoes, lemon balm, and summer savory. All the seeds were purchased from High Mowing Organic Seeds.
